LAVA-America promotes public interest and awareness by encouraging Americans to examine important civic and cultural questions through respectful, fact-based dialogue. We seek understanding rather than partisan victory.
Civic Responsibilities
Our rights as Americans are accompanied by civic responsibilities. LAVA-America encourages informed citizenship, civil participation, respect for differing viewpoints, and a willingness to seek solutions that strengthen our communities and our nation.
American History
Understanding American history helps us appreciate both the ideals on which our nation was founded and the continuing effort required to fulfill them. We explore our history to learn from our achievements, our disagreements, our failures, and our progress.
Social Justice
LAVA-America promotes awareness of social justice by examining how the American principles of liberty, equality, fairness, and opportunity have been legislated, interpreted, applied, and sometimes denied, throughout our history. Fact-based dialogue can help Americans consider how those principles should guide us today.
Cultural and Diversity Awareness
Cultural and diversity awareness strengthens our ability to understand fellow Americans whose experiences, backgrounds, traditions, or perspectives may differ from our own. LAVA-America encourages respectful dialogue across those differences while emphasizing the values and civic responsibilities we share.
